Dennis Nicholson is a Toronto based Director, Writer, and Composer.
After college Dennis pursued his passion for filmmaking via production sound, capturing on set performances while learning filmmaking from a boots on the ground perspective. Over the years his work reached new heights in scope and scale, ranging from Canadian hits like ‘Kim’s Convenience’ and ‘Night Raiders’, to some of the biggest TV shows in the world: ‘The Boys’ and ‘Reacher’.
While working on set, Dennis has always been directing and producing his own films. Utilizing everything he learned while being a part on the larger productions, he crafted many award winning short films, each more ambitious than the last. In 2019 he was ready for his first feature, and it was about... cats!
Dennis released his first feature film ‘Kitty Mammas’ in 2021, starring Paul Sun-Hyung Lee. A mockumentary comedy centering around four women participating in a clinical trial to give birth to cats, a story that only Dennis could have dreamed of. While outrageous in concept, at its core the film succeeded in telling a heart-warming story in which it’s characters love and support each other through life’s toughest challenges.
In 2023 Dennis was tapped to direct Mark Brombacher’s new horror film. ‘A Wicked Muse’ is a dark and sinister story centered around a struggling couple whose deepest desires can be fulfilled by a sinister demonic presence, if they are willing to pay the price. Dennis jumped onboard and crafted a nuanced film that balances emotional drama and horrific tension. In 2026 the film was released on VOD and online platforms.
After years of making a name for himself in the Power Rangers community, writing and producing TV opening theme songs music videos (to the tune of millions of views) he set his sights taking on the Power Rangers IP from his own perspective:
‘Black Ranger: A Power Rangers Story’ is a grounded take on the global franchise with real personal stakes that isn’t ashamed of its origins. His most ambitious project to date, the film wows its audience with incredible stunt choreography and stunning visual effects. In 2026, after 5 years of blood, sweat and tears, ‘Black Ranger’ dropped online, and it was embraced by both Power Rangers and nerdy communities online.
Dennis is currently developing several exciting film and TV projects, and has set his sights even higher than ever before.
